NCAA Women's Volleyball - Penn State vs. Minnesota

My daughter and I visited the Penn State main campus on November 2 to take a look at their Forensics program. She is thinking about switching from West Chester University to Penn State and needed to see how the programs compare. I think she'll soon be a Penn Stater!
We stuck around for the women's volleyball match on Friday evening against Minnesota. It was the first time we saw a volleyball match at the college level, and the girls didn't disappoint. Penn State won, 3-1. I hope to catch more matches and see some other PSU teams when she officially transfers.
We arrived at 6:00 pm thinking the game started at 8:00. Obviously the gym was quite empty 2 hours before it started. We picked up our reserved seats, which were okay but not quite as close to the floor as I'd hoped. I noticed that the bleachers on the other side were totally empty except a group of fans sitting near the floor. I asked the usher about the seating, and she said the whole other side was general admission seating - I could sit anywhere (but avoid the student section)! We promptly switched sides and parked ourselves on the front row with our feet on the gym floor. We actually had to avoid getting hit by volleyballs several times.
As a result, I could get some very good close-ups of the players. I switched between my 70-300 and 24-105 lenses.
Getting started

Micha Hancock (12) serving. She was really fun to watch. Her serves are amazing. The crowd mad a fuse and explosion sound every time she served, which was totally appropriate. sssssssssssssssssssss BOOM.
Deja McClendon (18) hitting against Tori Dixon (6).
Minnesota pre-game warm up with Kalysta White (5)

New York ComicCon was held at the Javits Center in New York City from October 11 - 14. I attended on Saturday, October 13. As usual, it was continuous fun.
This year they dropped the Masquerade (which was a disaster last year) in favor of a simple costume contest, with the winner chosen by crowd response. While I think this format was better, the location was not very spectator-friendly. I found myself hanging out with the contestants in line rather than pay attention to the activity on the stage.

The Furry Friends Network 7th annual Race for Their Lives was held on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Gifford Pinchot State Park.
This event includes a 5K trail run and 2-mile fun walk and helps to raise desperately needed funds for veterinary care for the animals in our program as well as spay/neuter surgeries for stray and feral cats in our community.
This year was their most successful fundraising event ever!
